FAQ

Coffee Subscriptions

What is a coffee subscription?

Just like a magazine subscription – or Netflix – a coffee subscription is a service that allows us to send freshly roasted coffee to your mailbox every month, without you having to remember or think about it.

How does it work?

Our coffee subscriptions are sent on the first Wednesday of every month. Make sure you sign up by the 24th of the month prior to when you would like to receive coffee. For example, if you would like to start receiving your coffee subscription in June, then sign up by 24th May. Payments are taken from your account automatically on your renewal date every month. For example, if you signed up the 24th of May payments will be taken the 24th every month. So please make sure to have sufficient funds at the beginning of that day to avoid delay.

Is there a binding period?

There is no binding period, you may cancel or pause your subscription at any time you wish under ‘My Account’ settings.

How often will I receive my coffee?

We currently send out our coffees on the first Wednesday of every month.

How long will it take for my coffee to reach me?

We want you to enjoy the freshest coffee possible, so we always send coffee within a week after it was roasted. All our coffees are packed in nitrogen flushed and vacuum-sealed bags. This increases the shelf life of the coffee and our coffees should therefore taste sweet and fresh at least for a month after roast date.

Shipping with Norwegian Post varies depending on where you are. The amount of shipping days is out of our control and we unfortunately cannot offer tracking on this service.

Norwegian Post

Norway: 2 – 5 days
Sweden & Denmark: 3 – 9 days
Europe: 3 – 10 days
United States: 5 – 10 days
Rest of world: 7 – 20 days

With DHL, tracking is provided.

DHL

Europe: 2 – 3 days
Rest of world: 3 – 4 days

Please note that because of varying degrees of lock downs due to the Covid-19 situation, deliveries outside of Norway with postal service may take anywhere from 1-6 weeks. DHL is not affected by this delay in a significant way.

How do you guarantee freshness?

We only roast to order and our coffee gets packed immediately after roasting. We flush our bags with nitrogen when we seal them as this preserves freshness and greatly prolongs the shelf life of the roasted coffee. In our experience the optimal period to consume our coffee is from 1 week after roasting to within 5 weeks after the roast date, (although it can still taste great after this). We have found that the best brewing results come after allowing the beans to rest approximately 5-10 days after roasting. This de-gassing period allows time for most of the CO2 from the roasting process to evaporate. In other words, by the time you receive our parcel in the mail, you should be ready to go.

If I order more than one bag of coffee per month in my subscription, will I receive multiple bags of the same coffee?

We normally ship different types of coffee which means that if you subscribe to 3 bags you will get 3 different coffees. However if you subscribe to 4, 5 or 6 bags we will send 2 of each of the 3 coffees we have selected. Sometimes we might send out less than 3 different coffees as well but most of the time it is 3 types of coffees.

When do I need to sign up by?

To catch the next shipment, make sure you place your order by 12 noon (CET) on the 30th / 31st of the month prior. For example, place your order by 30th of April to catch the next batch of coffees sent on the first Wednesday of May.

What do I get with my subscription?

Each month Tim will choose his favourites coffees, making sure that your receive something different every time. Often we will roast something exclusive for subscribers, it may be a micro-lot that we have purchased or a unique variety. Coffee is always roasted to order and sent out on the same week, so you are guaranteed to receive freshly roasted beans. You can order 1, 2 or 3 bags per month – filter or espresso roast.

Can I pause/freeze my subscription?

Yes, just log into “My Account” and change the settings in there under “Subscriptions” – “Schedule” – “Stop”.

How do I reactivate my subscription?

Log back into “My Account” and change the settings in there under “Subscriptions” – “Schedule” –
Resume”.

Can I change the details of my order?

Yes, you can change the delivery address, quantity of bags, coffee type (filter/espresso) and shipping method. Please remember to do this before your next subscription renewal date in order for changes to be reflected in your next shipment. For example, if you signed up on the 24th of May you have to make the changes before the 24th of the month. Changes made after this will be applied to the next month’s order. You can check your renewal date and change the details of your order by logging in to “my account” then “Subscription”.

How does a gift subscription work?

This works the same as our recurring subscription except that it only lasts 3, 6 or 12 months. So it really depends how much you want to spoil that special someone… If you want to update your shipping address, please email order@timwendelboe.no.

How can I edit my subscription?

To change your subscription, click on the “Upgrade” button under My Account – Subscriptions page. And then follow the usual steps as if creating a subscription order from scratch. On the checkout page, choose the “Pakke til bedrift” option to make sure the coffee goes straight to your mailbox.

Shipping

Do you ship internationally?

Yes. We are pleased to offer international shipping. Unfortunately, due to customs challenges, we are not currently able to ship to Russia.

How much does shipping cost?

The cost of shipping depends on weight, volume and destination. The price for your shipment is calculated and added to your total during checkout. We currently use Posten for packages delivered within Norway where you can choose between normal mail with no tracking or “Pick-up parcel” with tracking.

International customers (sales outside of Norway) can choose between Norwegian mail service with no tracking or DHL with tracking (also called EXPRESS WORLDWIDE).

Within the EU, we only offer DHL shipping with tracking. For EU-customers, the price you will see at checkout is including custom duties and VAT for the country you are located in.

Gift subscriptions are always sent with Norwegian mail with no tracking.

Do your prices include shipping?

No. Because shipping rates vary according to destination, shipping costs are calculated and added to your total during checkout.

When will my coffee arrive? Will it still be fresh when it gets here?

We want you to enjoy the freshest coffee possible, so we always send coffee within a week after it was roasted. All our coffees are packed in nitrogen flushed and vacuum-sealed bags. This increases the shelf life of the coffee and our coffees should therefore taste sweet and fresh at least for a month after roast date.

With DHL, tracking is provided.

Please note that because of varying degrees of lock downs due to the Covid-19 situation, deliveries outside of Norway with postal service may take anywhere from 1-6 weeks. DHL is not affected by this delay in a significant way.

Are there any issues with customs or duties on shipments?

Each country have different tax and duties regulations but in general our subscriptions are able to reach our subscribers without any delays through customs because the value is normally below the amount for tax registration (note: this is no longer the case for EU). We advice you to research your local import and tax regulations to be sure you can receive the coffee smoothly.

If you chose DHL as the freight option (this is the only shipping option for EU-countries), then we send DDP which means customs declaration, duties & taxes are included in the freight price. If you chose Norwegian mail service, then a customs fee and tax might be charged when you receive your shipment if the value of the goods is above your countries tax free limit.

Why is DHL the only shipping option for EU countries?

On 1 July 2021 the value added tax (VAT) exemption for the importation of goods not exceeding EUR 22 was removed. As a result, all goods imported to the EU are subject to VAT and we can no longer send coffee under EUR 22 without paying VAT.

Since these law changes, we send parcels to EU with DDP (Delivered Duty Paid), meaning that the price you pay for shipping is including custom duties and VAT for the EU country you are located in. Norwegian Post does unfortunately not offer this service and therefore we only able to ship to the EU with DHL shipping with tracking (also called EXPRESS WORLDWIDE).

Our Roasting Style

What is a light roast coffee?

A light roast coffee is one where the coffee is not roasted as long or as dark as traditional dark roast coffee.

We wish to preserve and enhance as much of the natural coffee flavours as possible so that you will be able to taste the distinct flavours that is unique to each coffee we import. Therefore we roast our coffees very carefully in order not to cover our coffees with roasty aromas from darker roasts and at the same time stay away from the grassy flavors and sour acidity from an underdeveloped roast.

Our light roasted coffees are suited for all brew methods except espresso. The roast level gives a cup with clarity, brightness and sweetness with little bitterness and ashy flavours from the roast process.

If brewed as espresso on an espresso machine, the lighter roast style will result in a cup with a very high level of acidity due to the highly concentrated brew. We therefore recommend using our slightly darker roasted coffees for making espresso.

Grinders

Do you sell ground coffee?

No. Because we are committed to providing you with the best coffee experience possible, we only sell coffee as whole beans. You can view a selection of grinders in our webshop.

What kind of grinder should I use?

We currently sell a selection of grinders in our webshop. Although a hand grinder works well, it is a bit of a hassle to use, especially if you are making coffee for a large group. That is why we recommend getting an electric burr grinder for home use. There is a wide range of electric home grinders available on the market today, from entry level to café-quality. The two most important criteria to look for are an adjustable grind setting and a good set of quality grinding burrs. In addition to the hand grinders in our webshop, we recommend the Uniform grinder from Wilfa that we have helped develop. It is a flat burr grinder with excellent burr quality that grinds evenly and is easy to use. For a more entry level grinder, the Wilfa “Nymalt” is a good option. Other grinders like the Mahlkönig Vario, the Niche Zero and grinders made by Barazza are also good alternatives.
