TW Biological Project
In November 2023, we announced an ambitious ten-year goal: by 2034, all the coffees we purchase should come from regenerative farming systems. To begin this journey, we launched the TW Biological Project in partnership with Biofilia, a team of experts based in Mexico.
Biofilia specialise in biological farming trials, helping producers reduce or eliminate synthetic fertilisers and agro-chemicals while maintaining or even increasing productivity and yields. By comparing a control plot (managed conventionally) with a test plot (managed biologically), we can measure the real impact of transitioning to regenerative practices. Soil and foliar analyses provide the baseline, and tailored treatments are then designed for each farm according to its specific needs.
This three-year project is currently being implemented on six farms across Central and South America, as well as on our own farm, Finca El Suelo in Huila, Colombia. The aim is to improve soil health, strengthen crops, and increase both yield and profitability. But the vision goes beyond productivity alone: the project also seeks to enhance carbon sequestration, improve biodiversity, build resilience to climate change, and reduce costs for farmers.
