El Salvador Cup of Excellence

Thursday, June 17th, 2010

We just bought the 30th place winning coffee at the 2010 El Salvador Cup of Excellence auction.

You might wonder why we didn’t bid on the delicious 1st place winner or the lovely no. 3. Well, we are looking for a slightly different profile from El Salvador. Although I love the Pacamara they produce, I feel that we are able to source similar styled coffes from Honduras, only with more intensity. However,  I love the super sweet and dense Bourbon coffees from El Salvador.

The lot we bought is just the style we are looking for. The coffee is super sweet, juicy and has a lovely marzipan aroma with berries and plum in the background.
We bought this lot for USD 5.31 per lb (453 grams.) That is more than USD 4,- above fair trade price.
We are planning on using it for espresso as we think this style of coffee will be super sweet pouring from our FB80.

Hopefully it will arrive in about 6-8 weeks.

Guatemala Cup of Excellence

Wednesday, July 8th, 2009

We are proud to announce that we just bought the no. 11 lot at the 2009 Guatemala Cup of Excellence.

The coffee is grown on the farm San Antonio De Esquipulas y Anexos and is a mix of Bourbón, Catuaí and Caturra.

Here is a taste description:

Aroma: Hints of almonds and chocolate.
Acidity: Tropical and stone fruit-like acidity. Lively and refreshing.
Mouthfeel: A clean cup with a fat texture without being heavy. Intense sweetness and a really nice balance.
Flavour: Intense chocolate flavour. Hints of rasberries and peach. Sweet finish.

The coffee was bought for USD 7.45 per lb. (453g) of green unpacked coffee ex. transportation cost. This is about USD 6.19 above fair trade price. The farmer gets 80% of the money, the remaining 20% goes to managing the Cup of Excellence system.

The Coffee from the farm San Pedro was one of our favourites among this years auction lots from Costa Rica.

Here is a brief taste description:

A very juicy and sweet coffee with soft mouthfeel and sweet berrylike acidity. Flavours of chocolate, cherries and blackberries. Sweet and juicy finish.

Hopefully we will get the coffee within 2 months.

Cielito Lindo

Thursday, September 11th, 2008

We are very happy to announce that from Friday the 12th of September our first ever self bought Cup of Excellence coffee will be for sale.

Cielito Lindo, the 4th place winner from this years Honduras Cup of Excellence went for a whopping 14 US$ per pound. In adittion we have vacuum packed the coffee, so sales price is NOK 700,- per kilo, but we think it is worth it.

We also make it on our Clover for 45 kr. a cup.

We have roasted this coffee very lightly to bring out its delicate fruity flavours and a juicy mouthfeel.

We really hope you like it.
