Thanks for your comment.
I think Jobneel is better off with better quality in regards to the old trees.
Planting new trees will take about 4 years before you get harvest and many years before you get top quality. But I do encourage him to stomp his trees to enhance more yield on the old trees. Also when he is stomping trees, some of the old will die and they are of course replaced with new trees. Jobneel is also expanding his farm to secure more income in the future.
I truly believe that even in the high priced market we are in today that Jobneel is better off on focusing on quality. I will continue to buy his coffee as long as the quality is there and we are always paying good prices for him. That means if he does his job, he will have a more secure income.

Thoroughly enjoyed reading about your experience. Can't wait to try the coffee again this year :-)

Establishing long term relationships like this is great for the farmer, and very exciting for us - the end consumer. I love the fact that I can read exactly what is being done at the farm and then later evaluate the result in the cup several years in succession. Thank you!

Sounds like the Jobneels are willing to listen to your recommendations. I am sure the improved processing and better sorting will pay dividents in the cup. Are you afraid that some of your recommendations could be a gamble though? What if your suggestion not to uproot the old trees deprives Jobneel of income he would otherwise have had?

I'm amazed at how much the farmer gained to learn from your visit. It was also really interesting to read a relationship had been created from this trip that would actually benefit both parties!
